The beginning of the devotion to Our Lady of the Navigators originated in the Middle Ages during the Crusades, when Christians invoked the protection of the Virgin Mary, under the title of Star of the Sea, prayed for support to the Crusaders when they crossed the Mediterranean Sea in towards Palestine.
